the islands of tahiti

Located halfway between California and Australia, French Polynesia is indeed heaven on earth.

French Polynesia consists of one hundred and eighteen different islands and atolls, spread over a vast area roughly the size of Europe.

As an overseas territory of France, French Polynesia is divided into five different groups of islands, the Society Islands, the Tuamotu Islands, the Austral Islands, the Gambier Islands, and the Marquesas Islands.

Te Mana adventure cruises mainly take place in the Leeward Islands of Bora Bora, Huahine, Taha’a and Rai’atea. These northern Society Islands are appropriately known as “the jewels of the Pacific”.

Tahiti is the largest and most well-known island in the Society Islands and is home to the capital city of Papeete. Sixty-one percent of the entire population of French Polynesia lives on the island of Tahiti, making it the economic and political center for all of the islands.

French Polynesia is rich in history, culture, and beauty. It truly has something for everyone to enjoy and experience. Warm, tropical waters and exquisite coral reefs house some of the richest and most diverse sea life in the world, making this a snorkeling and diving paradise. Visitors can relax in and explore countless exquisite lagoons, bursting with tropical fish and colorful corals, or soak up the sun and beauty on endless white and pink sand beaches. The turquoise blue lagoons are surrounded by emerald green mountains with soaring, rugged peaks and hiking trails that provide unsurpassed vantage points from which to observe neighboring islands and the vast blue Pacific.

Spirituality is paramount to the Polynesian Islands, and its history provides for some of the most interesting and meaningful exploration while visiting this part of the world. Ancient places of worship (marea) and beautiful churches are some of the vestiges you will find in the islands. Local artistry, pearl farming and vanilla plantations provide countless opportunities to take in the history, culture and art of this region.

Most people assume French Polynesia is only for the rich and famous or honeymooners. Although French Polynesia has some of the most luxurious resorts in the world, it also has a wide range of options for everyone. This is a must see region of the world, waiting to welcome you with open arms, flowers and the warmth and kindness Polynesians are famous for.
